Several years ago this young Maasai warrior was jailed in Loliondo, Tanzania for two days after his village was raided by unidentified forces. He had refused to leave his land, which lies adjacent to grounds controlled by an Emirati luxury hunting company known as OBC.
An elder stands by the grave of his mother. "If we are forced to leave this land, I will have to leave her as well," he says.
Maasai overlook the land at issue here: 1,500 square kilometers that runs alongside Serenget National Park.
Elders meet two days before a meeting of the tribes to protest the ongoing intimidation. I was not allowed to attend the gathering.
Despite being fully accredited, I was forced to leave Loliondo by the district commissioner.
